T1 Faker to take break from competing due to arm injury

T1 have announced that Faker is taking a break from competition while he recovers from an arm injury. The Korean mid laner revealed that the problem has affected his ability to play, to the point where he’s canceled upcoming streams and visited a hospital to get a diagnosis.

Faker will not take part in July 5’s match against DRX due to an arm injury that, according to him, has had “a big impact” on his recent performances. According to the Korean star, he has been forced to play through arm pain since the June 17 match against BRION.

An hour before the match against DRX was scheduled to start, T1 released a statement announcing that Faker “will take a temporary break due to his injury, starting with today’s match against DRX”.

Earlier this week, T1 announced that Faker will not be streaming this month due to “wrist pain”.

According to the South Korean organization, the scans that Faker underwent on his arm at a hospital showed “no major abnormalities.”

“After discussions with the coaches, players and team, the decision was made for him to take a break to focus on his treatment and recovery,” T1 said.

It is unclear how long Faker will be out, but T1 stated that the player is focused on recovering “to make his return to the regular season of the 2023 LCK Summer Split.”

According to T1 head coach Bae ‘Bengi’ Seong-woong, Faker will be out of action for at “least two weeks”. “We’ll see how it goes,” he said.

Faker is also part of South Korea’s national LoL team for the 2022 Asian Games, which will kick off on September 23.

Who will replace Faker while he recovers from injury?

T1 Challengers mid laner Yoon ‘Poby’ Seong-won replaced Faker in today’s series against DRX, which ended in disaster for T1.

The 17-year-old, who came through T1’s academy, is averaging a 1.6 KDA in LCK CL 2023 Summer, where T1 Challengers are next-to-last with a 2-7 record.

LCK color caster Wolf ‘Wolf’ Schröder recently expressed doubt about Poby’s ability to compete in the league.

“To put it nicely, he is pretty green,” Wolf said of Poby on the ‘Monte & Wolf Show’. “He is not great. He is a very weak player at the moment and gets crushed by almost everybody in lane. His team fighting is not good.”

T1 currently sit third in the LCK Summer standings with a 6-3 record. On July 8, the team is scheduled to face Gen.G, who remain undefeated in this split.
